Introduction to 3D Graphics and Animation
About this subject
On successful completion of the subject, students should be able to:
- be familiar with the various applications of 3D Computer Graphics Imagery (CGI) within the “Information Technology” industry
- demonstrate the use of the Cartesian coordinate system, create 2D and 3D primitive objects and sub-objects using vertex, edge, face, and polygon
- create and demonstrate 3D models using polygonal modelling
- demonstrate the use of 2D spline objects and the manipulation of spline vertices (corner, smooth, Bezier, Bezier-Corner) to create 2D and 3D models
- create and demonstrate the use of materials and texture maps
- create and demonstrate animation, animate objects, lights, cameras and materials
- present and demonstrate their work

This subject introduces the fundamentals of computer graphics, animation, audio and video; essential for digital content development for computer and video games, and eXtended Reality [XR] (Virtual [VR], Augmented [AR], Mixed [MR]) applications. Tools and techniques used for creation of visual and audio information are introduced.

Single subjects are the individual components that make up a degree. With Open Universities Australia, you’re able to study many of them as stand-alone subjects, including postgraduate single subjects, without having to commit to a degree.
Each of your subjects will be held over the course of a study term, and they’ll usually require 10 to 12 hours of study each week. Subjects are identified by a title and a code, for example, Developmental Psychology, PSY20007.
First, find the degree that you would like to study on our website.
If that degree allows entry via undergraduate subjects, there will be information about this under the Entry Requirements section. You will find a list of 2-4 open enrolment subjects you need to successfully complete to qualify for admission into that qualification.
Once you pass those subjects, you will satisfy the academic requirements for the degree, and you can apply for entry.
