A hands-on introduction to geographical information systems (GIS) and remote sensing as used in environmental management and planning.
This subject encourages spatial thinking and understanding of the physical and human environments, explores geographic data sources and focuses on basic skills in spatial data analysis. Topics:data sources, spatial data analysis, map construction, GPS, image classification, change detection, cartographic modelling and demographic data sets and analysis.
Practical work includes exercises and a minor team-based or individual research project.
Please Note: All students studying at Murdoch University will need to complete the compulsory unit, Murdoch Academic Passport (MAP100), which only takes 2-3 hours to complete online. Find out more: http://goto.murdoch.edu.au/MurdochAcademicPassport.
