About this subject

  • Note: Students may only enrol in this subject if they have completed either 130 cp at 1000 level or above OR 20 cp in HIST or MHIS or MHIX subjects at 2000 level or above. See Entry requirements for details.

    On successful completion of this subject, you will be able to:

    1. Locate historical films and television programs within the context of their production.
    2. Demonstrate understanding of the ways that films and television programs produce interpretations of the past.
    3. Conceptualise and create an original research project by presenting a coherent historical argument that is situated in the relevant historiography.
    4. Successfully undertake independent primary and secondary historical research.
    5. Develop and apply a critical vocabulary for the analysis of film and televisual materials as primary sources.

  • Other requirements - Students who have an Academic Standing of Suspension or Exclusion under Macquarie University's Academic Progression Policy are not permitted to enrol in OUA units offered by Macquarie University. Students with an Academic Standing of Suspension or Exclusion who have enrolled in units through OUA will be withdrawn.
