About this subject
1. Generate short fictional narratives with clear structure and expression.
2. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and application of the terms and concepts introduced during the subject.

This subject is designed for those who wish to write creatively and focuses on the craft of fiction, and especially the short story. Students will draft and edit two short stories during the semester and provide feedback to other students on their draft stories. We read and discuss selected Australian short fiction in different styles, voices, and genres, and do hands-on writing exercises in class. It provides a theoretical framework and practical skills for writers and readers.
- Fiction analysis: Lecture (250 words equivalency)In-class quiz analysing the week's set reading. (10%)
- Fiction analysis: Tutorial (250 words equivalency) Students provide written feedback to peers on draft stories, use this as a basis for class discussion, and then hand sheets to the tutor for assessment. (10%)
