About this subject
- Speak at a beginners level about daily life, hobbies, likes and dislikes.
- Read and write at an beginners level, and recognise a total of approximately 100 kanji.
- Participate in pair and group work both in and outside of lectures.
- Communicate using all for key areas of the target language: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
- Gain a socio-linguistic and socio-cultural understanding of Japan through critical engagement and development of arguments of issues in contemporary Japanese society.

In this continuing beginner level language subject, students will focus on the four key elements of Japanese -reading, writing, listening and speaking. Building on the knowledge gained in JPN1001,this unit brings the total number of kanji learnt to approximately 90. Students who undertake this course will deepen their understanding of Japanese language and culture, and Japan's place in the world. This subject is also offered as an intensive summer subject commencing in either late January or the first week of February.

- Mid term and final written tests (equivalent to 1600 words) (40%)
