About this subject

    1. Speak at a beginners level about daily life, hobbies, likes and dislikes.
    2. Read and write at an beginners level, and recognise a total of approximately 100 kanji.
    3. Participate in pair and group work both in and outside of lectures. 
    4. Communicate using all for key areas of the target language: speaking, listening, reading and writing.
    5. Gain a socio-linguistic and socio-cultural understanding of Japan through critical engagement and development of arguments of issues in contemporary Japanese society.

Past La Trobe University students who have previously completed JPN1BEB (Japanese Beginners 1B), or JPN1BE2 (Japanese Beginners 2), or JPN2BE2 (Japanese Beginners 2), or JPN3BE2 (Japanese Beginners 2) are ineligible to enrol in this subject.
