About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- refine their coaching philosophy
- critically evaluate theory concerning the contested meaning of a sports coach
- appraise holistic pedagogical approaches to sports coaching and their benefits in a range of contexts
- describe and evaluate the characteristics of reflective coaching practitioners
- select, utilise and justify sports coaching approaches according to purpose and as appropriate to the athletes identities and needs
- define and reflect upon quality sports coaching pedagogic practice.

This subject aims to extend the student's understanding of coaching practices through developing a sound understanding of pedagogies (learning and teaching approaches) typically used in sports coaching. Students will study how and when to apply these approaches to various athlete cohorts and to develop techniques for reflecting on their own and others' coaching practices.
