After successfully completing this degree you should be able to:
- Appraise the contribution that research makes to evidence-based practice.
- Understand the research process and the basic elements of research design.
- Examine the role of qualitative and quantitative methods for conducting research.
- Discuss legal and ethical principles that apply when conducting research.
- Critically evaluate research reports and synthesise findings applicable to professional practice
- Understand selected analysis techniques used in qualitative and quantitative research.
- Critically examine conceptual and philosophical dimensions of research.
- A week-by-week guide to the topics you will explore in this subject will be provided in your study materials.
Foundations of Research Inquiry introduces students to the application of research approaches in health, social work, human and community services. It aims to provide students with knowledge, skills and techniques necessary for them to conduct their own research project. It will also encourage students to critically examine research methods in terms of their inclusiveness, ethics, validity and reliability when applied to research in health and human services.
