Developing Professionally

About this subject

  • This subject will focus on developing each student’s own Personal Professional Practice Framework: the combined abilities, competencies, and patterns of practice that reflect the student’s values and knowledge-in-action as it is being acquired and applied. The subject fosters ongoing reflective practice of each student and considers the place of the individual in the professional workplace, including the range of professional cultures to which they must be to able adapt, strategies for self-care and techniques for acquiring further knowledge and skills as their career progresses. In summary, the subject aims:

    1. To actively prepare students for their entry into the professional workplace.
    2. To develop the students’ ability to reflect upon professional practice.
    3. To assist and encourage students to begin to develop a questioning, analytical, critical and self-evaluative approach towards their professional duties and professional tasks.
    4. To provide students with the opportuntiy to reflectively consider the methods of 'self-care' required for long-term resilience within the criminal justice profession.
