    1. have confidence and skill in using a range of technical tools and concepts to analyse novels and short stories
    2. construct effective arguments about literary texts
    3. write clearly, perceptively and fluently about literary texts
    4. undertake research on literary topics
    5. undertake advanced work in literary studies with confidence in their disciplinary grounding
    6. appreciate reading fiction as an imaginative, life-enhancing experience.
