About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- construct curriculum, assessment, feedback and evaluation designs by applying a design approach that is structured on learning cycle frameworks
- demonstrate knowledge of assessment, feedback and evaluation modes and practices in tertiary contexts
- develop learning sequences demonstrating an understanding of specific aspects of effective teaching and/or learning support methods and student learning
- appraise one's own learning and teaching practice based on critical reflection in light of key concepts, research and theories of learning and teaching in higher education settings
- integrate knowledge of contemporary university learners and learner diversity in teaching practice and learning design and development.
This subject is intended for experienced tertiary educators who wish to formalise and extend their knowledge, skills and capabilities as facilitators of learning, curriculum designers, and reflective evaluators of their teaching quality. The subject begins with a review of the diverse nature of contemporary higher education students and their varied learning needs and expectations. It examines theories and practices, curriculum design, assessment, evaluation and feedback in the contemporary context from a design thinking perspective. The application of design thinking to curriculum development affords innovative approaches to the facilitation of learning and assessment practices. In engaging with this approach learners will develop the capacity to design curriculum responsive to educational advancements and evaluation outcomes. Learners should be able to utilise their learning in application to professional accreditation bodies (HEA, HERDSA) at an Associate Fellow level, and to their professional teaching portfolio.
