About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- critically reflect on one’s conception of teaching and learning, the nature of innovativeness and excellence in educational practice, and the development of purposeful, scholarly informed teaching practice
- examine and articulate the qualities of teaching excellence, incorporating scholarly literature on learning and teaching
- employ a range of evidence types to highlight approach to innovations and developments in one’s teaching practice
- communicate effectively one’s conception of teaching and learning, rationale and approach to teaching practice
- synthesise course learnings into a teaching portfolio.

This subject is designed for learners to reflect on and evidence their development as educators, their teaching aims, innovative practices, and achievements. In this subject, learners collate evidence of their teaching by drawing on their learning from across the degree and scholarship of teaching and learning. Learners reflect on how one’s disciplinary context shapes teaching aims and approaches, what constitutes evidence of their teaching effectiveness, and the impact of their teaching on student learning. Learners use this reflection and evidence to develop and present a teaching portfolio, with a preference for an online portfolio. In their portfolio, learners present their philosophy of teaching, reflective teaching statement, and evidence their development, innovative approaches to teaching and learning, and excellence in supporting and facilitating student learning and teaching. This subject is highly relevant for those looking to develop applications for teaching awards, academic promotion and fellowship for professional accreditation.
