About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- implement OHS risk management at workplaces using different tools and methodologies
- identify the steps required to achieve regulatory compliance in the management of hazards and risks
- recommend appropriate design measures and safety technologies to effectively control high risk hazards
- make a recommendation to improve OHS risk management

The aim of this subject is to achieve a balance between the practical and theoretical aspects of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) risk management as well as providing an introduction to Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) legislation. The subject introduces WHS law, including an outline of the legal system and the hierarchy of legislation, before examining risk management. This begins with an exploration of the OHS risk management process before specifically focusing on high risk hazards. More advanced risk assessment techniques will be introduced at the end of the subject to enable students to further their knowledge in quantitative risk assessment and system safety.
