About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- describe and critique refugee rights theories
- use appropriate technologies to locate and critically appraise relevant refugee rights literature
- analyse and communicate refugee rights theories
- critically analyse political, policy and moral issues using a refugee rights framework.

- The politics of refugee movements: A global perspective
- The politics of refugee movements: Australia
- Seeking asylum in Australia: A legal perspective
- Durable solutions to refugee movements
- The politics of settlement and integration
- Activism and advocacy and the rights of asylum seekers
This subject was previously known as Human Rights Issues 1.
This subject will cover the issue of Refugee Rights and will look at forced migration from a range of perspectives, encouraging a critical engagement with the topic. It will examine theories and practices in relation to refugees and the politics of forced migration as well as the evolution of the international regime for refugee protection and the challenges provided by the restrictive policies of receiving countries will be examined. The subject will also analyse durable solutions to refugee movements.
