About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- appraise the various bibliographic devices used to provide access to subject content
- apply the principles of conducting an effective reference interview
- apply principles of advanced and specialised forms of subject retrieval, including citation based retrieval
- recognise the issues and standards related to ethical reference and information services
- apply principles and practice of advanced disciplinary subject retrieval.
- A week-by-week guide to the topics you will explore in this subject will be provided in your study materials.
The role of the reference and information service. Basic bibliography. The reference interview. The organisation of subject/discipline access. Advanced search strategies, including their use with automated information retrieval. Planning, promoting and evaluating reference and information services. Digital and virtual reference. Current awareness services. Citation indexing. User education/information literacy. Ethical issues of references services.
