Public Health Capstone
About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- synthesise public health evidence to define a public health problem/issue and determine appropriate action
- communicate public health evidence in ways appropriate to specialist and/or lay audiences
- reflect on performance or processes undertaken in a collaborative substantial public health activity (practice based project)
- demonstrate ways of working and personal skills that enable effective functioning in public health practice.
Using knowledge and skills acquired throughout the Master of Public Health program students will translate what they have learned into public health practice. This capstone subject prepares students for working in the field of public health and will provide students with the opportunity to develop skills as an effective team member and leader. Students will engage in both individual and group-based work in partnership with industry. The project will be practice-focused, practice-based and practice-relevant, and build leadership, teamwork, research and critical thinking across multiple public health practice areas. This subject will be wide-ranging and the projects may include: a public health program plan or evaluation, policy analysis, extended rapid review, health impact assessment or data analysis, amongst others. It will be supported by a combination of workshops, literature search strategy training, possible group meetings (face-to-face or online) and an expert academic as a topic leader.
