Professional Experience 4: Transition into the Profession

About this subject

  • At the completion of this subject students will be able to:

    1. develop a personal professional plan to support continued professional learning and growth that incorporates maintaining a positive teacher identity and professional resilience; and is underpinned by research, the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, and other related professional frameworks
    2. demonstrate achievement of the Graduate Standards for Teachers through successfully completing a five-week full time block professional experience placement
    3. develop evidence of teaching capability from the practical elements of the professional experience being undertaken in the school setting, for the purposes of completing the teaching performance assessment and the required elements of the Assessment for Graduate Teaching (AfGT)

MTC610 Professional Experience 4: Transition into the Profession must be completed in the final study period of enrolment in the degree. Students are responsible for ensuring they enrol correctly and clearance to commence the final placement will only be given to students who are undertaking the final subject/s of their degree.
Students will need to contact Curtin at hum-ed-ouaprac@curtin.edu.au requesting permission. Once we have confirmation that the student has satisfied the above requirements, then the restriction will be lifted.

Additional requirements

  • Placement requirements - Placement Details - The fieldwork for this unit includes a 5-week full-time, block professional experience placement in a school, plus 4 full-day pre-visits to the placement site. Placements are undertaken on a full-time basis in a continuous block at the specified time, with pre-visits ideally occurring in the weeks immediately prior to the block. Other Details - Please note that all relevant, valid working with children checks and clearances must be provided as requested prior to commencement of the pre-visits.
