About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- research and explain theory for the effective use of data to improve student learning outcomes
- create learning plans based on data and research
- examine data from a full range of sources such as family, allied professionals, class or centre, school and system
- valuate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student data and proposed actions to improve student learning outcomes

This subject focuses on principles, processes and impacts of classroom, school level and system data collection, analysis and interpretation. Data relevant to Indigenous educational outcomes will be interrogated, emphasising an evidentiary approach to program and policy development in classrooms, schools and beyond. This subject interrelates theory and practical components throughout the content and assessment tasks. The overall pass requirement for the subject consists of a mark of at least 50% for the theory component and a pass grade for the professional practice placement.

All institutions in Australia that provide accredited Initial Teacher Education courses are required to administer a mechanism which assesses candidates' inherent suitability for teaching. The tool that Curtin University has selected to fulfil this requirement is the Teacher Capability Assessment Tool (TCAT). The TCAT is a web-based assessment tool and further information can be found at the following link: https://tcat.edu.au/. Please check your Curtin student email address for the notification from TCAT with the link to enable you to register for this online assessment. You are required to undertake the TCAT as soon as possible in your course and please be aware that you will not be able to enrol in the subject Professional Experience 3 unless your TCAT result has been recorded.
