About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- identify methods and processes appropriate to a painting art specialism
- apply skills and techniques central to a painting art specialism
- effectively communicate the research process to a group of peers, using art specific technical terms
- originate and critically analyse responses to set projects.

This subject was previously known as Painting: Strategies and Materials.
This subject is designed to develop your capacity for research-based enquiry into skills, techniques, methods and processes of fine art. You will undertake a practical engagement of studio based research through staff and/or student designed projects. You will work towards presenting a body of artworks that investigate art making strategies and material exploitation based in painting.
You must supply your own art materials for this subject. It is also useful to have access to a digital camera and/or scanner for electronic submission of art for assessment.
Please Note: If it’s your first time studying a Curtin University subject you’ll need to complete their compulsory ‘Academic Integrity Program’. - This is in the range of 10 to 12 hours of study each week.

Single subject FAQs
Single subjects are the individual components that make up a degree. With Open Universities Australia, you’re able to study many of them as stand-alone subjects, including postgraduate single subjects, without having to commit to a degree.
Each of your subjects will be held over the course of a study term, and they’ll usually require 10 to 12 hours of study each week. Subjects are identified by a title and a code, for example, Developmental Psychology, PSY20007.

If that degree allows entry via undergraduate subjects, there will be information about this under the Entry Requirements section. You will find a list of 2-4 open enrolment subjects you need to successfully complete to qualify for admission into that qualification.
Once you pass those subjects, you will satisfy the academic requirements for the degree, and you can apply for entry.
