About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- examine the key features of health care systems including historical developments and international comparisons
- critically evaluate the performance of health care systems
- apply a systems perspective to address the health care needs of a population

This subject takes a systems thinking approach to understanding how healthcare is organised. Students examine health system leadership and governance, policy, funding as well as access to health care of specific groups including indigenous, rural, mental health and aged care. Students discuss the benefits and challenges of delivering health care and medical services in the primary and community setting as well as future trends of health systems globally. Students will also compare different health systems from both developing and developed countries and critically appraise the challenges of delivering healthcare in different political, economic and cultural environments.
