At the completion of this subject students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate knowledge of the English curriculum and principles associated with effective teaching in the early years
  2. interpret and apply theory of children’s literacy development
  3. select appropriate content, assessment items, teaching strategies and resources in relation to the Australian Curriculum (or local curriculum documents)
  4. plan, structure and sequence English learning programs.

Description

This subject will enable pre-service teachers to recognise and translate theory of children’s literacy development. The subject will prepare pre-service teachers to plan, assess and deliver English learning programs for children aged five to eight. A main focus will be on knowledge of curriculum documents and English content areas of language, literacy and literature.
