About this subject

  • At the completion of this subject students will be able to:

    1. interpret and apply knowledge of how language varies within and across selected cultures and contexts
    2. evaluate the differences and similarities of language use across a range of cultures and contexts
    3. analyse how various speech styles and registers impact on identity, power, social status and linguistic prejudice
    4. critically appraise various teaching practices and their underlying theories and discuss how they can support (or hinder) EALD students’ learning.
