About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- examine and appraise the various language learning theories
- synthesise information from a variety of sources to interrogate empirical research from various theoretical perspectives.

This subject examines how languages are acquired, whether for young children acquiring their first language(s) or older learners acquiring a second or subsequent language. It examines the various theories used to explain the processes of acquisition and explores the various empirical studies used to test these theories.
