About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- appraise different learning theories and discuss benefits for teaching and learning STEM subjects
- critique personal teaching and learning practice in STEM subjects in light of knowledge of learning theories, learners, and context
- design and implement a constructivist learning activity and evaluate students’ learning in STEM subjects.

- Learning theories (individual constructivism) in STEM
- Learning theories (social constructivism) in STEM
- Teaching approaches (inquiry-based, problem-based, project-oriented teaching) in STEM
- Teaching approaches (interdisciplinary education) in STEM
- Designing a learning activity for constructivist learning in STEM
- Designing a learning activity for constructivist learning in STEM
- Ways to understand students' learning (interview and diagnostic instruments) in STEM
- Ways to reflect on teaching (video recording and journals)
- Contexts, achievements gaps, and current issues in teaching and learning STEM subjects
- Individual presentation of STEM projects and reflection of the unit

This subject examines how constructivist theory informs Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) teaching and learning by focusing on the practical, classroom-based implications as well as theoretical backgrounds.
