Information Services Foundation Practicum
About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- contextualise professional expectations in information services
- describe practical application of professional structures and standards in information services
- demonstrate understanding of practical requirements for information professionals by successfully completing practicum placement
- design and prepare documentation that articulates professional knowledge, skills and experience.
- A week-by-week guide to the topics you will explore in this subject will be provided in your study materials.
This subject is an introduction to an information service environment through a two-week full-time practicum placement organised by the Department of Information Studies. Degreework includes consideration and discussion of practice in records, archives and library services.
Please Note: If it’s your first time studying a Curtin University subject you’ll need to complete their compulsory ‘Academic Integrity Program’. You are advised to take this subject after you have studied at least two other level 1 major subjects in a previous study period (eg. LIS100 and LIM115 (SP1) or LIS125 and LIM115 SP2)

There is a two-week full-time practicum placement attached to this unit. The placements are organised by Curtin University in accordance with guidelines. Study load
- 0.125 EFTSL
- This is in the range of 10 to 12 hours of study each week.

Single subject FAQs
Single subjects are the individual components that make up a degree. With Open Universities Australia, you’re able to study many of them as stand-alone subjects, including postgraduate single subjects, without having to commit to a degree.
Each of your subjects will be held over the course of a study term, and they’ll usually require 10 to 12 hours of study each week. Subjects are identified by a title and a code, for example, Developmental Psychology, PSY20007.

If that degree allows entry via undergraduate subjects, there will be information about this under the Entry Requirements section. You will find a list of 2-4 open enrolment subjects you need to successfully complete to qualify for admission into that qualification.
Once you pass those subjects, you will satisfy the academic requirements for the degree, and you can apply for entry.
