About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of indexing tools and practice
- create metadata records for a range of information objects
- apply international standards to produce bibliographic information
- research and contextualise technological applications against the theoretical framework in information organisation and retrieval.
- A week-by-week guide to the topics you will explore in this subject will be provided in your study materials.
Basic principles involved in structuring information objects and creating the metadata which makes them retrievable. Topics include information structures, hypertext, markup languages, databases, automatic and derived indexing, metadata and description, document type definitions and schemas, indexing languages and standards and subject analysis.
