About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- identify and appraise appropriate methods for investigating epidemics and the epidemiology of infectious diseases
- apply epidemiological principles and methods to the investigation, management and control of infectious diseases
- analyse the public health impact of existing, emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in developed and developing countries.

This subject examines the natural history of infectious diseases. It will focus on historical and current perspectives, epidemiological methods for the investigation of infectious diseases, infectious disease dynamics, detection and analysis of outbreaks, routine surveillance of infectious diseases, epidemiology of emerging infectious diseases, vector borne diseases, health care associated infections and zoonoses. Implications of epidemiology for the control of infectious diseases.
