About this subject
At the completion of this subject students will be able to:
- apply the language skills needed to undertake professional-level editing tasks
- apply advanced page and screen based editing skills to professional-level editing tasks
- constructively critique fiction and non-fiction forms and assess their suitability for audiences and markets, taking into account cultural and gender specificities, and ethical and legal issues
- work independently and in teams to plan and execute an editing and publishing project to professional standards.

This subject provides advanced practical editing instruction, and allows students to build on existing knowledge and skills. They learn and practice the skills of editing to a real-world publishing project in which project management skills, high-level editing skills, and professional writing skills are utilised. The capacity to work independently and collaboratively to take a written text from submission to publication is developed. Students also learn to analyse and reflect on issues relevant to contemporary publishing industries.

Single subject FAQs
Single subjects are the individual components that make up a degree. With Open Universities Australia, you’re able to study many of them as stand-alone subjects, including postgraduate single subjects, without having to commit to a degree.
Each of your subjects will be held over the course of a study term, and they’ll usually require 10 to 12 hours of study each week. Subjects are identified by a title and a code, for example, Developmental Psychology, PSY20007.
First, find the degree that you would like to study on our website.
If that degree allows entry via undergraduate subjects, there will be information about this under the Entry Requirements section. You will find a list of 2-4 open enrolment subjects you need to successfully complete to qualify for admission into that qualification.
Once you pass those subjects, you will satisfy the academic requirements for the degree, and you can apply for entry.
