About this subject

  • On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:

    • Demonstrate an understanding of and be able to explain the role of projects and project management play in accomplishing an organisation's strategic objectives, taking into account the various types of organisations such as functional matrix and project structures;
    • Create a comprehensive project plan using appropriate project management tools including a project charter, scope statement, a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Responsibility Assignment Matrix and develop precedence relationships among tasks based on a WBS, a network diagram and critical path and create a scheduled that includes resource allocations;
    • Assess major schedule, cost and performance risk elements and understand the approach for managing risks using the qualitative as well as quantitative techniques;
    • Establish a communications and closeout strategy that will maximise the value of the project experience to the organisation by capturing best practices and lessons learned.
