Determined to excel in her career and feel more confident in her role, Mandy wanted to complete a degree. She was juggling work and raising her family, so she needed the flexibility of online study, plus she wanted to finish her degree quickly by scaling up her study load. She hadn’t studied at tertiary level before and had some concerns about her ability, but it only took one unit to realise she had what it takes.
“I was always scared that I wasn’t going to be smart enough at my university degree. I just feared I was going to fail,” recalls Mandy. “With Open Universities Australia, you can do just one unit – you don’t have to sign up to the full degree. When I did that one unit I got really great marks. That pushed me on to do the next unit.”
Mandy completed a LinkedIn profile that included everything she thought would be relevant to a future employer: her job descriptions, her degree in Internet Communications and Marketing, marks, and hobbies. She recalls getting a career changing email from LinkedIn that said, ‘Hi, we’ve got a role available for you!’. Now Mandy works in the Marketing Solutions Department at LinkedIn. By completing her Bachelor of Arts (Internet Communications) through OUA, Mandy was more confident in her abilities and able to secure a job that aligns to her passions and her studies.
What is Open Universities Australia (OUA)?
OUA is not actually a university. We partner with 10 leading Australian unis to bring you over 150 degrees in the one place.
Through OUA, you have access to degrees from Macquarie, RMIT, Curtin, Swinburne, Griffith, La Trobe or Murdoch University. You study the exact same degree as an on-campus student. The only difference is that you study online, on your own terms. You choose when, where and at what pace you earn your qualification.
OUA makes it easier to study with no barriers to enrolment. Entry into our courses is not dependent on your education background. Regardless of whether or not you finished high school or received an ATAR score, we’ll help provide a pathway into your degree.
