Apply for a CSP place, and be on your way towards a bigger, bolder future.
Unlike students who study unit-by-unit, full degree students are locked into a course – on track to graduate with a recognised qualification. What’s more, full degree students are registered as official students of the university that provides their chosen course. This provides them with more support throughout their course, and alumni status after graduation.
The greatest advantage to studying a full degree is access to government support, available to eligible students. A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) makes studying more affordable, so students can more easily step into a career they’ve always dreamed of.
What is a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP)?
A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is an official place at university that is subsidised by the Australian Government.
This means that the Australian government will pay for part of your tuition fees (called the subsidy amount), and you pay the rest (called the student contribution). A CSP also gives you access to HECS-HELP – a study loan under the Government’s HELP programme.
The subsidy amount paid by the government acts as a discount, which means you’re not required to pay it back. Your student contribution can be paid upfront, or using a HECS-HELP loan, which will allow you to make repayments through the tax system later down the track.
One thing to keep in mind is that if you apply for a CSP, your chosen degree must be on the CSP list.
Are you eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP)?
To be eligible you must be either:
- An Australian citizen residing in Australia for all or part of your studies, OR
- A New Zealand citizen who will be residing in Australia for the duration of your study, OR
- The holder of a permanent visa who will be residing in Australia for the duration of your studies
You must also be:
- Able to meet the admission criteria for the course you’re applying for, AND
- Applying for a full degree on the CSP list
Attaining a degree could mean big things for your career, and doing so in a Commonwealth Supported Place could make a significant difference financially. Don’t hesitate to talk to a student advisor – via phone, live chat, or by filling in the form on this page – about whether a CSP is the right option for you.
