About this degree
Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:

Comprising four core subjects, four elective subjects, and four specialisation subjects, this master's course offers the opportunity to hone your skills across emerging fields such as business analysis, computer networking, network security, IT management, software design and development, and systems analysis.
Learn from anywhere - at your own pace
Students looking for flexible study options can choose to study online delivery option that provides the flexibility to study at a time and location that best suits your busy schedule. All subjects can be completed without the need to attend on-campus lectures or residential schools, with each subject supported by a host of educational technologies, including online meetings, lecture recordings, lab simulations and online forum discussions. You can choose to fast-track completion by studying additional subjects. You can also choose to study fewer subjects or take temporary leave to fit in with your busy work and personal schedule. If you choose to undertake the Master of IT at our Melbourne or Sydney specialty campuses, the course can only be studied on campus. No online classes are offered for this course.

Recommended study pattern
Because of the flexibility of the course requirements, there is no prescribed enrolment pattern. Students may choose the order in which they undertake subjects, depending upon the availability of subjects and the meeting of any prerequisites or assumed knowledge. Students are encouraged to enrol in core subjects in the initial sessions and complete as many of these as possible before selecting specialisation subjects.
The recommended enrolment pattern is 3 or 4 subjects per compulsory session for a full-time student (course duration 1.5 to 2 years) and 1 or 2 subjects per compulsory session for a part-time student (course duration 3 to 4 years).
The course consists of:
- 6 core subjects
- 2 subjects chosen from across specialisation or restricted elective subjects
- 1 four-subject specialisation for graduation in a particular specialisation - eg Master of Information
- Technology (Computer Networking); OR
- 4 subjects from across specialisation or restricted elective subjects for graduation with a generic Master of Information Technology
Students not undertaking a specialisation in the Master of Information Technology must study ITC571 as one of their restricted electives.

Applicants without an equivalent tertiary qualification may be admitted via Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Information Technology on the basis of professional attainment and/or work experience. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma, students will then be eligible for admission to the Master of Information Technology and receive credit for applicable subjects.
