About this degree
Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:
- Apply advanced knowledge in particular aspects of climate change, and a broad knowledge of the current issues in and approaches to climate change adaptation and mitigation from both science and policy perspectives;
- Use concepts, tools and analytical frameworks to evaluate climate change policies and science, applying a critical appreciation of how the relationships between them inform and shape debate;
- Independently apply their knowledge, analytical and research capabilities in professional practice in climate change, such as required by governments, non-governmental organisations and business;
- Effectively communicate knowledge and understanding in climate change to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Solve complex global environmental problems as a climate change expert or policymaker with this graduate degree. Commencing in 2021, all courses offered by the Crawford School will be available for either online or on campus study. The online and in person learning modes will assist you to secure an un-interrupted study experience in an uncertain world.
The degree is designed to prepare you for a career in climate change risk assessment, adaptation and mitigation strategy development, and regional, national and international policy formulation. You will have a deeper understanding of global policy and governance perspectives on climate change and strategies to improve policy performance. Taught by world-leading experts in climate change policy and science, this program provides you with the skills to decipher the problem of climate change through exposure to different lenses and perspectives. Climate change is a global policy problem. Your in-depth understanding and strategic insight into how to mitigate and adapt to the changing climate will be in demand. You will benefit from drawing on expertise from the Crawford School of Public Policy and ANU’s highly-acclaimed Fenner School of Environment and Society.
Design a degree program that best reflects your education and career goals in the field of climate change, including the study of climate policy design and implementation; vulnerability and strategies for adaptation; the economics of climate change; climate science; and effective climate change communication and engagement. Deepen this knowledge with study in complementary fields – non-fossil fuel energy technologies and policies; integrated approaches to risk and vulnerability assessment; the legal dimensions of climate change; and the politics, policy and governance perspectives on climate change.

Entry requirements
At a minimum, all applicants must meet program-specific academic/non-academic requirements, and English language requirements. Admission to most ANU programs is on a competitive basis. Therefore, meeting all admission requirements does not automatically guarantee entry.
- Bachelor degree or international equivalent with GPA 5/7; or
- Bachelor degree or international equivalent with GPA 4/7 and a minimum of 3 years full-time equivalent work experience at ANZSCO Skill Level 1 in a field related to the program; or
- Bachelor degree or international equivalent with GPA 4/7 and a Graduate Certificate or international equivalent with a GPA of 4/7; or
- Graduate Diploma or international equivalent with a GPA 4/7; or
- 48 units of courses in a postgraduate program with a GPA of 4/7; or
- Graduate Certificate or international equivalent with a GPA of 4/7 and a minimum of 3 years full-time equivalent work experience at ANZSCO Skill Level 1 in a field related to the program; or
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE) General test, completed no more than 5 years before the time of application, with a minimum score of 155 for Verbal Reasoning, 155 for Quantitative Reasoning and 4.0 in Analytical Writing and a minimum of 3 years full-time equivalent work experience at ANZSCO Skill Level 1 in a field related to the program; or
- A minimum of 10 years full-time equivalent work experience at ANZSCO Skill Level 1 in a field related to the program.
In line with the university's admissions policy and strategic plan, an assessment for admission may include competitively ranking applicants on the basis of specific academic achievement, English language proficiency and diversity factors.

Applicants with a Bachelor Degree, Bachelor degree with Honours, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in a cognate discipline may be eligible for up to 24 units.
