About this degree
During this course students will:
- Explain and employ a range of teaching strategies to develop literacy and numeracy in the context of their curriculum areas.
- Explain and apply a range of strategies that use ICT to expand learning opportunities in a safe, responsible, and ethical manner.
- Design and implement a range of effective teaching strategies to meet the needs of individual students.
- Recognise and respect the diversity and culture of young people, families and communities, applying principles of social justice and equity.
- Plan, develop and implement a range of appropriate strategies to assess and provide feedback on learning.
- Explain strategies to work effectively with student’s parents and/or carers.
- Create and maintain inclusive, supportive, and safe learning environments.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning and reflective practice.
Become a technology teacher and spark secondary students' potential. You'll master the art of teaching design and technology creatively, covering everything from managing the classroom environment to learning how to teach design thinking. Then you'll put your knowledge into practice over 80 days of professional placements in schools (we have a dedicated team who will aim to find you a placement in your preferred location). So when you graduate, you'll be ready to foster critical thinking, creativity and the technical skills essential for future success.
There is a significant demand for teachers qualified in technology and applied studies. On completion of this education degree you'll be classed as a teacher of technology with the ability to teach in the key learning area of design and technology, and another selected area from agricultural, food, industrial and information technology.

Entry requirements
Successful completion of at least two university level subjects (AQF level Associate Degree or higher) demonstrating a reasonable prospect of success through the Grade Point Average (GPA) gained in these studies.
- Minimum ATAR of 65 (including adjustment factors), OR
- Successful completion of a Tertiary Preparation Course from an Australian University or an accredited provider demonstrating a reasonable prospect of success through the Grade Point Average (GPA) gained in these studies.
- A completed AQF Certificate III (or higher) at an accredited provider demonstrating a reasonable prospect of success through the Grade Point Average (GPA) gained in these studies, OR
- 50% completion of an AQF Diploma level qualification at an accredited provider demonstrating a reasonable prospect of success through the Grade Point Average (GPA) gained in these studies.
Commissioned Officers from Australian Police, Fire, Mercantile Marine, Civil Aviation and Defence Forces (and related) can be admitted on the basis of rank, license, class, length of service and/or competencies achieved.
Students must meet one of the following criteria:
- Born in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, USA, or United Kingdom, and have completed at least one senior secondary or tertiary qualification in one of these countries. This qualification must have been taught and assessed in English; OR
- Not born in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, USA, or United Kingdom, but have completed senior secondary study or at least three years of full-time university study (or equivalent) in one of these countries, and the language in which the qualification was taught and assessed was English; OR
- Completed Academic IELTS test with a minimum score 7.0 in reading and writing, and a minimum score of 8.0 in speaking and listening. Testing results must be obtained within two years from the date of your application for admission; OR
- International Second Language Proficiency Rating (ISLPR) with a score of Level 4 in all four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing, undertaken at approved testing sites where the assessment is teacher focused. Testing results must be within two years from the date of your application for admission.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) and credit for current competencies will be granted to eligible applicants.

- EPT443 Professional Experience: Effective Teaching and Assessment in the Secondary Context.
Online students may need to attend an online or on campus intensive school for certain subjects. Intensive schools offer face-to-face or virtual lectures, tutorials and practicals to give you a deeper understanding of your subject content. Refer to the website for specific details.
