The Bachelor of Education (Primary) has been designed for people seeking to attain an Initial Teacher Education qualification in order to register as a teacher in Australia and any other countries that recognise an Australian teaching qualification. Specifically, this degree provides a qualification for those intending to teach children at the primary level of education.Students will develop advanced critical skills, knowledge and understanding concerning best practice in education and in meeting the needs of children. Students will have four opportunities to engage in professional experience in schools, culminating in a final professional placement of a block one full school term.Subject content includes digital literacy, planning lessons, assessment, classroom management and understanding diverse student needs.Please note that this course is only available to applicants who are residing in Australia for the duration of their degree. Bachelor of Education (Primary Education)

The Undergraduate Certificate in Teaching Education Studies is designed for people who are interested in pursuing a career in early childhood or primary education and gives the student entry (and credit for the four subjects completed) into the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) or (Primary) degree at Curtin. You will explore the world of child development, the use of technology in the classroom for younger school-aged learners, and explore emerging literacy. Undergraduate Certificate in Teaching Education Studies

Undergraduate Certificate in Secondary Teaching Education Studies

The Bachelor of Education qualifies you to be a teacher in Australia, and many countries overseas. Our evidence-based course draws on the Faculty of Education’s leadership and research in teacher education that is responsive to local and global contexts. Graduates will be qualified as a teacher in one of the following five areas:<ul><li>Early Childhood/Primary (6 weeks to Year 6);</li><li>Primary (Kindergarten/Prep to Year 6); English Primary Specialisation and specialisation in Science and Maths available </li><li>Primary/Secondary (English Primary Specialisation and one Secondary specialisation);</li><li>Secondary (Two teaching specialisations); or</li><li>Secondary: Design and Technology (choose from Industrial Technology, or Food and Fibre, plus one Secondary specialisation).</li></ul>The first year of the course provides a distinctive foundation with excellent grounding in literacy, numeracy, and subject content, as well as issues in contemporary education.  Within the four-year full-time equivalent degree (or 3.5 years fast tracked*), you also undertake core learning in Indigenous education, sustainability, inclusive (special) education, along with curriculum and pedagogy learning across disciplines. All primary and secondary students across Australia need to successfully complete the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE) prior to undertaking the second professional experience placement.If undertaking full-time study from year 2, studying from January to December (6 teaching terms) may be required in some years.Please note admission to this course includes <a href="https://www.scu.edu.au/education/education-profession/non-academic-requirements/" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(3, 36, 54);">non-academic requirements</a>.* Depending on course and specialisation pathway and term commencement.

This subject was previously known as Assistive Technologies.Technologies for Inclusion are constantly evolving, allowing teachers to provide a more inclusive education environment for students. Studying this subject will advance your understanding of the characteristics and functions of technology for inclusion, from low-tech, low-cost devices to high-tech equipment that can help students to achieve their best results. You will analyse ways to select and implement technology for inclusion to support a variety of needs and contexts and examine theoretical and legal reasons for deploying technology for inclusion in the classroom. You will also explore ways that technology for inclusion can support the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Technology for Inclusion

This subject introduces you to pedagogies appropriate for supporting the learning of mathematics in classrooms. The subject will provide opportunities for you to develop your personal numeracy skills and to identify where these skills can be applied in the context of education support. You will develop an understanding of appropriate pedagogies for individualising numeracy development, along with the theoretical underpinnings of how children learn mathematics. Systems Thinking for Regional Impact

This subject was previously known as EDS131 Curriculum and Instruction Lower Secondary: Humanities and Social Sciences.
This subject is designed to prepare pre-service Lower Secondary Humanities and Social Sciences teachers. The focus of the subject is on curriculum planning, teaching strategies, evaluation, resources, the demonstration of positive impact on student learning and research relating to Lower Secondary Humanities and Social Sciences. Teaching and learning practices to support and challenge a diverse student cohort are explored.
