This is a unit that allows students to investigate a particular area of interest. Students are required to define a research question and address it via a comprehensive literature survey and the presentation of a research plan. The student is required to carry out a critical analysis of the literature review and show evidence of independent thought.
This unit is undertaken over one semester/study period and given this time constraint the scope of work is limited to the aforementioned requirements i.e. you are not expected to carry out your research plan.

On successful completion of the unit, students should be able to:

  1. define a research question and complete a research proposal;
  2. undertake and complete a literature review of a research topic including a critical analysis of previous studies;
  3. present a preliminary research plan that give s an overview of the research including the research problem, literature survey and the proposed research design and methodology required to carry out the plan;
  4. communicate about this research to others in the scientific and general community.
  • Proposal — Project Proposal (10%)
