An introduction to the different types and sizes of plant and equipment used in the construction of modern buildings. An examination of the different processes, capabilities and performance outputs of each type of plant and the technical, safety and economic factors that have to be considered when deciding which type of plant or equipment to select for a particular construction project.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. identify different types of plant and equipment and compare their attributes
  2. evaluate the suitability of different types of plant for similar processes and different scenarios
  3. analyse the time and cost implications for different types of plant.
