INF10014 Information Methods unit introduces the broad fundamental concepts of information literacy and start to build an understanding of how information is managed and presented in organisations. The unit will focus on building academic skills as well as introducing problem-solving techniques and critical thinking for business solution development. Along with other topics, this unit will cover information literacy strategies for people at work and in study; translating and using information for competitive advantage; using and critically reviewing new modes of information delivery like social media and social networks; reviewing how data is converted into information; reviewing the design basics of presenting information with technology; as well as exploring some of the impacts of information on society.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. Develop a key range of academic skills to reflect, critique and argue perspectives on key issues in IT and society with the ability to reference and validate sources
  2. Apply information literacy skills to access and use information ethically and legally
  3. Examine and evaluate the modes in which digital information is collated, accessed and stored
  4. Compare and evaluate how information can be effectively presented and interacted with by the users within a system.
