This unit was previously known as HTHM601 Health Services Management.

The focus of this unit is organisational theory and health service management. You will explore the role of the health service manager; power, politics and professional groups; the design of work; the design of health care organisations; organisational performance; strategic management and innovation and change.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. describe the unique practice environment of the health services manager and the key drivers for health care reform
  2. determine skills associated with components of the health service manager's role
  3. examine the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to job and organisation design in health care
  4. assess the challenges associated with a professional, multidisciplinary team and an integrated healthcare service delivery environment
  5. recommend strategies to lead and manage change successfully.
