Assesses the principles that contribute to public health nutrition as an important emerging discipline. Identifies the key principles for the prevention and promotion of the nutritional status of populations with an emphasis on national health priority areas and vulnerable groups.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. analyse the issues and challenges for public health nutrition in developed countries
  2. interpret food and nutrition monitoring and surveillance methods
  3. critically reflect on the evidence for and implementation status of food and nutrition policy
  4. construct an argument for public health nutrition within a professional setting.
