This unit explores the role of evaluation in health promotion. Evaluability assessment. Process, impact, outcome and economic evaluation. Research and evaluation designs. Threats to internal and external validity. Survey methods. Questionnaire design. Collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative data and methods. Evaluation instruments. Practical issues and problems. Case studies. Preparing evaluation reports.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. communicate approaches to evaluate health promotion intervention programs/research
  2. synthesise methods and designs used in evaluating health promotion interventions and research projects/programs
  3. apply health promotion evaluation methods and processes to design research instruments
  4. apply theoretical concepts around evaluation use in health promotion.
