This unit enables students to refine their roles as early childhood teachers. During the internship students will have opportunities to strengthen their autonomy and independence as a teacher of young children as they explore their role within the centre and its local community. With increasing confidence, students will be able to justify their decision making as a teacher responding to the challenges of daily work in an early childhood centre. At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate specialist expertise as a teacher of young children with a thorough grounding in all aspects of early childhood program design, implementation and evaluation
  2. demonstrate a sound understanding of early childhood knowledge and skills necessary to hold a substantial role and responsibility for a group of children, birth to five years in age;
  3. engage in working collaboratively with children, parents, and other staff members taking into account contextual aspects of the centre, background characteristics of the children and their families and the local community.
