Reflective and analytic skills required to critically examine educational practices, particularly in relation to curricula, school programs and teaching and assessment practices. Knowledge and skills related to action research and development of an action learning study.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. analyse the basic principles of early/middle childhood and secondary education that underpin effective curriculum planning, design, development and evaluation for successful student learning outcomes
  2. identify an aspect of professional practice from a teacher’s perspective to examine and explore in more detail
  3. identify and apply the purposes and processes of classroom-based action learning as a means of enhancing practice
  4. identify and review relevant professional reading to inform and support an action learning study/project
  5. design and apply an action learning study/project.

You must have successfully completed the following unit(s) before starting this unit:

  • One of the following two units:

    • EDE304 — Professional Practice (Years 1-3)
    • EDP325 — Professional Practice in Primary Education

If you have completed equivalent study at another university, please contact a Student Advisor for advice.

You must complete Level 1, 2 and 3 Education studies before commencing this unit. PLEASE NOTE: Only students admitted to the course may enrol.
