Organisation communication theories and organisational culture, implications of diversity for communication (eg. gender, age, culture, disability, spirituality), negotiation and conflict resolution from a communication perspective (strategies, perception, emotion, ethics, relationships, culture), managing emotions in organisational communication (eg. grief, loss, problem solving, decision making, conflict, responding to change, managing personal emotions), communication for practical contexts.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to: 

  1. discuss strategies for the effective management of organisational communication
  2. explore the implications of diversity in the context of communication theory and practice
  3. analyse and utilise negotiation strategies, including conflict resolution
  4. apply communication knowledge to common practical contexts in organisations
  5. identify and manage emotions in organisational communication.

Note: Level 2 units normally assume an introductory level of prior knowledge in this area, e.g. from studying related Level 1 units or other relevant experience.
