This unit extends the principles of corporate finance covered in the unit, Financial Management. It aims to develop students’ advanced understanding of selected topics in corporate finance and equip students with the ability to analyse and apply theoretical concepts to complex financial problems faced by Australian organisations.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. Discuss the issues in relation to valuation techniques and estimate the value of firm using different models
  2. Explain capital budgeting complications and evaluate and estimate risks associated with a project and/or a firm
  3. Discuss and explain the process within merger and acquisitions and summarise the key outcomes from mergers and acquisitions
  4. Discuss the exposures to risk in a business and how a business could choose different risk management instruments to hedge against these risks
  5. Critically evaluate the strengths and limitations of finance concepts and theories and apply theories to corporate financial decision and policy making
