The focus of corporate decision-making is two-fold: what investments should be made and how should they be financed. This course will develop a framework for analysing a firm’s investment and financing decisions, providing concepts and analytical tools that are based on the fundamental principles of modern financial theory. You will examine financial markets and the key financial tools used in managing organisations. You will investigate financial mathematic techniques, the valuation of debt and equity securities, corporate capital budgeting, risk and diversification, weighted average cost of capital, working capital management, dividend policy and financial risk management.

Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the financial challenges facing a contemporary business
  • Analyse financial reports and understand their limitation
  • Demonstrate an understanding of financial markets and apply financial modelling techniques to inform business decisions
  • Undertake independent academic research relating to asset allocation.
