This unit is about Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and how enterprise systems fit into business operations. ERP Systems are becoming common in medium to large organisations as it removes the need to have a large number of individual computer-based applications. An ERP system integrates the various applications into a single package, increasing the efficiency of the organisation in delivering goods or services to customers. SAP software will be incorporated in this unit and used in the workshop. This unit is therefore viewed as a combination of business management practice and technology.

It is expected that you will acquire the following capabilities:

Generic Business Management

  1. Reflective practice: ability to reflect on experiences, employ conceptual frameworks, to relate these to similar and dissimilar contexts, to inform and improve future practice
  2. Analyse different types of problems, the contexts in which they exist and develop and apply solutions based on approaches you have learnt in your studies
  3. Use the technical tools and language of the field.
  4. Express ideas, concepts and arguments in a logical and coherent written form and in conformity with relevant standards of academic writing.
  5. Recognise the uncertainty of business decision-making
  6. Identify, understand, distinguish and interpret basic legal concepts.

Critical Analysis, Problem Setting and Solving Capabilities Ability to forecast and propose plans for cost effective interfaces between logistics and other functional business activities

  1. Ability to apply business and logistic methods and principles to identify problems to improve supply chain management for sustainable practice
  2. Ability to develop and evaluate creative and innovative solutions by applying a range of appropriate resources to plan for material management and physical distribution of goods and services
  3. Ability to deal with changing circumstances by integrating strategic, tactical, and operational thinking and initiating action in an ongoing cycle of research, planning and evaluation

Interpersonal and Communication Capabilities Ability to communicate effectively to build and maintain relationships with other professional at various levels of business organisation, stakeholders, clients, team members and management
