This unit develops theoretical understandings and practical skills in training and development. It covers a systematic approach to training, adult learning theories and principles, and individual and organisational development, including career management. The unit focus is on the critical issues of training and development faced by today's organisations as they strive to meet the changing needs of their competitive environments. In this regard, national frameworks and organisational strategies are also examined.

Group work is part of the assessments in this unit.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate insights into adult learning theories, training and development processes, problem-solving, analysis and practical applications in the area
  2. Develop and evaluate a group training session while working in a diverse group
  3. Analyse contemporary HRD organisational problems and apply relevant HRD solutions
  4. Develop professional HRD skills.
