This unit introduces students to theory and practice of risk management applied to specific hazards that OHSE professionals typically encounter in modern organisational environments.  Risks covered include noise, thermal comfort, hazardous chemicals, confined spaces, infectious agents, asbestos, electricity, plant and hazardous wastes.  The focus will be on teh risk management process with particular emphaisis on processes to identify, analyse and respond to risk exposure within the legislative and organisational context.

Upon completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. Apply knowledge of how specific OHSE hazards lead to adverse effects on health, safety and environment
  2. Analyse information on specific OHSE hazards using the risk assessment/management framework to determine a level of risk
  3. Compare and contrast interventions and strategies to control the risk associated with specific hazards with reference to applicable OHSE legislation and standards.
  4. Justify ethical and sustainable reccomended actions to peers and key workplace stakeholders using appropriate technical and theoritical OHSE information.
