Challenge yourself by reading news and current affairs in a critical fashion. You will combine the development of practical news writing skills with a study of politics and the media. The unit provides an overview of news writing skills, news gathering practices, Australian political institutions, the Constitution and citizenship, pressure groups, lobbying and elections. You are expected to be aware of current affairs on a daily basis. This unit is a great way to build your journalistic writing as well as your understanding of the interaction of political issues and institutions with the media. You will develop skills used in journalism and public relations.

At the completion of this unit you will be able to:

  3. appreciate the emerging global politics
  4. understand how the mass media relates to political institutions
  5. discuss key issues in current affairs
  6. appreciate your own biases and consider them rationally.
