This unit examines the discourse in design aesthetics and theory within the notion of the interior and the built constructs of the society in which it exists. This unit will also involve examination of context through exemplars, eg. site visits and introduces students to a range of research methodologies and methods.

At the completion of this unit students will be able to:

  1. analyse design exemplars and the social context in which they are constructed through site visits
  2. analyse and define the notion of aesthetic decoration and apply within a design context
  3. create an original design aesthetic which is informed by research.
